It’s completely normal to have doubts about your studies. A majority of students will sooner or later reach a point where they question their current study path.

These feelings can be brought on by a lack of motivation or interest in the curriculum, a general feeling of doubt when thinking about your studies, or – particularly for international students – feeling like you don’t really fit in yet. Regardless: you are not alone!

Doubt is sometimes accompanied by shame and dread, but it doesn’t have to be. At NEXT STEP niederrhein, we are trained professionals who can help you with one-on-one coaching, workshops and lots of information on these pages to help you get your bearings.

Checklist for your study situation

Maybe you’re not really sure what’s going on right now. You are dissatisfied or worried, but can’t quite put your finger on where this is coming from or what it’s all about. And going to counseling with such a confused feeling seems weird to you? It doesn’t have to, but it’s understandable.

Sometimes it helps to sort yourself out first. Why don’t you take the time to work through the sheet offered here to help you reflect? Maybe the situation will become clearer and you will be able to search for help and information on this website.

Online test about your study situation

The “Student Self-Reflection Tool Prevdrop” is an online tool for self-reflection on the current study situation. Here, students who have doubts about their studies have the opportunity to first deal with their own situation and to receive important information about possible help. It is a first step towards problem solving or decision making.

The test takes about 20 minutes and you will receive feedback on your results as well as initial information. You are welcome to bring this evaluation with you to the coaching session, if you wish.
