What does coaching offer you?
Coaching is a solution-focused form of counselling that focuses on your entire (decision-making) process and all the perspectives that you would like. There are many reasons for students to doubt their studies and everyone experiences them differently. There is therefore no “one size fits all” plan of action for students in this position. During the coaching sessions we work together to find the right path for you. The central focus is on self-reflection and setting goals: Where am I right now? Where do I want to go? What do I have to do to achieve this goal? Our range of services is rounded off with tips on research strategies and referral to the relevant contacts in the network.
Coaching is available to all students of both universities and is therefore offered in both German and English. International students must bear in mind that counselling of external network partners is generally given in German and that the Immigration Office should be involved, depending on their individual situation.
In which framework does coaching take place?
Coaching at your own campus
Coaching is offered at all campuses of the Rhine-Waal and Niederrhein Universities. After you have made an appointment, the sessions are held in a confidential atmosphere on the campus of your choice. At the first meeting you will discuss your current situation and one or more follow-up appointments can be arranged depending on your individual needs. Several appointments can be useful, as phases of research and (self-)reflection often alternate. The appointments last from 45 to 90 minutes, depending on your needs.
Online coaching
Are you currently living or staying far away from the campus? Do your children have to be cared for at home and is it difficult to make an appointment at the university right now? No problem. We also offer you online coaching appointments online. These sessions are held in the virtual consultation chat room. We will send you the link befor the appointment. All you need is a stable internet connection and a computer with a microphone and camera.

Checklist for your studying situation
You may not be really sure about what is actually happening right now. You are unhappy or worried, but you can’t say exactly where it comes from or why you feel this way. Does going into counselling with such a confused feeling seem weird to you? It doesn’t have to, but it’s understandable if it does.
Sometimes it helps to try to sort things yourself first. Take your time and work through the sheet available here to help you reflect. This may already make your situation clearer and you can search more specifically for help and information, also on this website.
Online test for your studying situation
The “Student Self-Reflection Tool Prevdrop” is an online tool for self-reflection on your current studying situation. This gives students the opportunity to first take a look at their own situation and to obtain important information about the help and support available. This is an initial step towards solving problems or making decisions. The test takes about 20 minutes and you will be given feedback on your results as well as some initial information. You are welcome to bring this evaluation to the coaching session if you wish.

Was erwartet mich?
Coaching ist eine lösungsfokussierte Beratungsform, die Deinen gesamten (Entscheidungs-)Prozess und alle gewünschten Perspektiven in den Blick nimmt. Studienzweifel können sehr unterschiedliche Gründe haben und jede oder jeder erlebt sie anders.
Es gibt daher keine fertige Handlungsschablone für Studienzweifler*innen. Im Coaching erarbeiten wir gemeinsam den für Dich passenden Weg.
Dabei stehen Deine Selbstreflektion und Zielfindung im Mittelpunkt: Wo stehe ich gerade? Wo möchte ich eigentlich hin? Was muss ich tun, um dieses Ziel zu erreichen? Tipps zu Recherchestrategien und die Vermittlung zu Ansprechpartnern/innen des Netzwerkes ergänzen unser Angebot.
Wie läuft's ab?
Coaching am eigenen Campus
Das Coaching wird an allen Standorten der Hochschulen Rhein-Waal und Niederrhein angeboten. Nach Terminvereinbarung finden die Gespräche in vertraulicher Atmosphäre an dem von Dir gewünschten Campus statt. Im ersten Gespräch wird Deine aktuelle Situation besprochen und es können individuell ein oder mehrere Folgetermine vereinbart werden. Mehrere Termine können sinnvoll sein, da sich oft Phasen der Recherche und der (Selbst-)Reflektion abwechseln. Die Termine dauern von 45 bis 90 Minuten, je nach Bedarf.
Online Coaching
Dein Wohnort oder dein aktueller Aufenthaltsort ist weit weg vom Campus? Deine Kinder müssen Zuhause betreut werden und ein Termin an der Hochschule ist gerade schwer zu realisieren? Kein Problem. Wir bieten Dir Erstberatungs- oder Coachingtermine auch online an.
